A number of reports in recent days have spoken excitedly about the New Dawn in Africa. An illuminating renaissance, if you will, of émigrés flowing back home ready to exercise their entrepreneurial right to create a brighter future.

According to an article in the UK’s Telegraph, Nigeria is amongst the leaders of this trend with at least 10,000 people returning home last year.
The news brings hope to Nigeria’s situation, as some of the mostly highly educated people in the world are Nigerian.

The new wave of Africans headed home, will foster the exchange the information and ideas, breeding innovation. Leapfrogging outdated technology, undoubtedly spurring rapid development, by learning from the West, but doing it the better African way.

With all the talk of leapfrogging, one step we can’t skip is the implementation of basic infrastructure, which can only be achieved with co-operation from government, which will only happen with pressure from the people.

That being said, it is integral for Nigerians in the Diaspora to become more involved the wheeling and dealings of our government. It would be silly to wait for basic amenities to magically appear, before deciding it is safe to return.
