We Thought You Should Know…

• Vote or Quench was established in April 2010. After a two-hour phone conversation discussing the overwhelming response to the founder’s blog on CNN. #shamelessplug, but great article – http://amanpour.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/14/dear-leaders-of-nigeria/

 

• The website was launched a month later – a snippet of what our generation can do when we have our mind set on it. We also thought it was a great idea.

 

• The core team is made up of 4 young, like-minded and motivated young Nigerians – 2 guys and 2 girls – who’ve never actually been in the same room at the same time but share the same belief that change MUST happen and understand that they can either Vote or Quench. We’re hoping this feeling is contagious.

 

• According to the UN, 70 percent of people living in Nigeria are under the age of 30. Shock to us. You wouldn’t know by looking at our leaders.

 

• More than 750,000 Nigerians live in the US and another 150,000 in the UK. That’s a lot of visa. Home is where the heart is – Give it back, pay it forward.  It’s your country too.

 

• In the 2007 Presidential elections, only 35 million votes were recorded out of a possible 76 million eligible voters. Maybe we were too busy sitting around complaining. Let’s get out and vote! 

 

• Change is a collective effort – www.VoteorQuench.org applauds the efforts of our peers who are also working to engage the Nigerian public in key socio-political issues that impact our lives. Go us!
