Waiting by Gabriel-Angelo Ajayi

I saw it in a dream;
“Nigeria” was the play.
The eagle flew again,
Wings stretched and soaring.
The horses roamed again,
With every gallop more grace.

Then the riffle men aimed and
The horse catchers came.
The eagle fell and
The horses scattered.

We remained seated and stared;
We stared at ourselves and
We stared at the sky form which the
Eagle was now gone.
Then we turned our backs and
Waited for the next act.

Author bio: My name is Gabriel-Angelo Ajayi. I write poems about Nigeria because I believe in her potential and in the unbreakable spirit of her people. My words are not lifeless; they are my contribution to the effort for change.
